RecyclingSchedule.com is not a government site. Confirm with your city or hauler. Official source: Oakland County Waste, Materials Management & Recycling.
Quick answer: Oakland County has no single recycling day. Your city, village or township runs recycling. Many homes get weekly pickup on trash day. Find your community below, then confirm on its official page.
What day is recycling pickup in Oakland County?
It depends on where you live. The county says local communities manage recycling. Many offer curbside pickup. Some only have a drop-off site.
Two groups serve the southern part of the county. They are SOCRRA and RRRASOC. Each is a shared recycling authority owned by member cities.
Not sure who serves you? Call the county waste program at 248-858-2071. Or email mmp@oaklandcountymi.gov.
How do I find my recycling day?
Follow these steps:
- Find your city, village or township name on your tax bill or mail.
- Check the SOCRRA list below. Then check the RRRASOC list.
- If you are on neither list, open your city or township website. Or call its office.
- If you live in a township with no city service, ask your hauler or HOA.
Tip: Your community is where you pay property taxes. That may differ from your mailing city.
Is my city in SOCRRA?
SOCRRA stands for Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority. It serves 12 communities:
- Berkley
- Beverly Hills
- Birmingham
- Clawson
- Ferndale
- Hazel Park
- Huntington Woods
- Lathrup Village
- Oak Park
- Pleasant Ridge
- Royal Oak
- Troy
SOCRRA collects recycling weekly, on the same day as trash and yard waste. Set your cart out by 7 a.m.
Troy uses a private company, Tringali Sanitation, for pickup. Royal Oak sends residents to SOCRRA’s site for recycling details. Check your city page for your exact day.
Is my city in RRRASOC?
RRRASOC stands for Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County. It serves nine communities. Recycling is picked up on your trash day. The day depends on your community and street.

Where do townships without an authority go?
Some places have no city-run service. Oakland Township is one. Residents hire a licensed hauler on their own. Subdivisions should ask their homeowners association first.
The township lists three licensed companies:
- Addison Disposal: trash only, no recycling.
- Priority Waste: trash, recycling and yard waste.
- Waste Management: trash, recycling and yard waste. The township notes no plastic grocery bags or Styrofoam.
Orion Township uses WM for pickup. Check the township’s collection schedule page for your day.
Will holidays delay recycling in 2026?
Yes, in some places. Rules differ, even inside one authority. The table covers the holidays still ahead this year.
| Holiday | Troy | Orion Township (WM) | RRRASOC cities (incl. Southfield, Novi) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving, Thu, Nov. 26 | Thursday pickup moves one day | Thursday and Friday move one day | Thursday and Friday move one day |
| Christmas, Fri, Dec. 25 | No delay expected [VERIFY] | Friday moves one day | Friday moves one day |
| New Year’s Day, Fri, Jan. 1, 2027 | No delay expected [VERIFY] | Friday moves one day | Friday moves one day |
How each group words its rule:
- SOCRRA: When one of six holidays falls on a weekday, pickup for the holiday and the rest of that week moves one day. The six are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- RRRASOC: No service on the same six holidays. Pickup on the holiday and any day after it moves one day.
- Troy: Troy applies the delay only when the holiday falls Monday to Thursday. Its holiday examples on the page are still labeled 2024.
- Orion Township: The township says a Tuesday to Friday holiday delays that day and the rest of the week. A Monday holiday does not.
Troy is a SOCRRA city, yet it posts a narrower rule. So do not assume. Check your city.
Troy tip: Subscribe to Troy’s refuse and recycling alerts on the city page.
What can I put in my curbside cart?
Rules vary by hauler. For SOCRRA cities, the curbside list includes:
- Paper: newspaper, magazines, junk mail, cardboard, office paper, boxboard
- Metal: empty cans and aerosol cans
- Plastic: bottles, jugs and containers
- Cartons: milk cartons and juice boxes
- Glass: bottles and jars, all colors
Put items in loose. No plastic bags of any kind. Bags jam sorting machines. That is one form of contamination, which means the wrong items mixed into recycling.
SOCRRA also offers a search tool called Waste Wizard, on its site and as a free app. For general rules, see our guide to what you can recycle. Your local list always wins.
Where can I drop off recycling?
Drop-off sites take items your curbside cart may not. Rules and hours differ.
SOCRRA Drop-Off Center
- 995 Coolidge, Troy (between 14 Mile and Maple)
- By appointment only. Call 248-288-5150.

- No longer accepted: plastic bags, plastic wrap, bulky rigid plastics, VHS tapes, cassettes and CDs.
RRRASOC Southfield Drop-Off Site
- 20000 W. Eight Mile Road, at the northeast corner of Evergreen and Eight Mile.
- Open daily in daylight hours.
- Free and open to the public, according to RRRASOC.
- No Styrofoam, household hazardous waste or electronics.
Novi Drop-Off Site: closed
- The site off Lee BeGole Drive closed September 21, 2026, for road work.
- Novi and RRRASOC ask residents to use the Southfield site.
- RRRASOC’s release calls the closure temporary. [VERIFY: reopening date, if any.]

- Accepts plastics #1, 2, 4, 5 and 7, paper, glass, metal, cardboard 2 ft by 2 ft or smaller, and cartons.
What about large items and e-waste?
Bulk pickup is set by each city or hauler. Novi’s contract with Priority Waste includes bulk item collection. For other places, call your city or hauler. [VERIFY: bulk rules for each community you add.]
For old electronics, RRRASOC accepts them at its HHW events. The Southfield drop-off site does not. See our e-waste recycling guide for more.
How do I get rid of household hazardous waste (HHW)?
HHW means paint, cleaners, motor oil, batteries and similar products. Do not put them in your cart. Oakland County has no county-wide HHW program. NoHaz, RRRASOC and SOCRRA serve many communities. Some cities run their own.
RRRASOC residents
- Sat., Oct. 3, 2026, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Novi DPW, 26300 Lee BeGole Drive.
- Sat., Oct. 24, 2026, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. RRRASOC MRF truck entrance, 20875 Mapleridge Avenue, Southfield.
- Electronics are accepted at HHW events. A mobile shredder runs at Saturday events only (up to 3 boxes or 100 pounds of paper). The Oct. 3 event has no Simple Recycling.
- On other days, drop off at ERG Environmental Services, 13040 Merriman Road, Livonia. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free for RRRASOC residents. Call 734-437-9650.
- ERG home pickup costs $135 per stop plus $0.75 per pound.
- Event questions: 248-208-2270.
MRF means materials recovery facility. It is the plant that sorts recycling.
NoHaz
- All 2026 NoHaz events are done. The county expects to post 2027 dates in February 2027. The first event will likely be April or May.
- Member communities set resident fees. Examples for 2026: Oakland Township, Orion Township and Waterford Township, $15; Independence Township, $30; Pontiac, free.
- Non-members pay $135 per vehicle, per event.
- Rochester and Rochester Hills no longer use NoHaz. They use SOCRRA.
- Hotline: 248-858-5656. Email: nohaz@oaklandcountymi.gov.
The county also has an HHW program map to find your community’s option.
What if I miss pickup or need a cart?
First, check that your cart was out by your set-out time. SOCRRA cities use 7 a.m. Then contact the right office:
| Community | Who to contact |
|---|---|
| SOCRRA cities | Your city office first. Troy DPW: 248-524-3392 |
| Farmington | DPW, 248-473-7250 |
| Farmington Hills | DPW, 248-871-2850 |
| Novi, Milford (village), South Lyon, Walled Lake, Wixom | Priority Waste, 586-228-1200 |
| Southfield | Public Services, 248-796-4860 |
| Milford Township | Township offices, 248-685-8731 |
| Orion Township | WM, through the township page |
| Oakland Township | Your private hauler |
Farmington and Farmington Hills DPWs also take cart requests. Missed-pickup deadlines vary. [VERIFY: reporting windows for each hauler.]
What changed in 2026?
- The Novi drop-off site closed September 21 for Lee BeGole Drive work.
- RRRASOC’s Southfield site is now the alternative for all members.
- Rochester and Rochester Hills now use SOCRRA for HHW, not NoHaz.
- All 2026 NoHaz events are finished.
